Stephanie Wohlgemuth, Ph.D.
Research Assistant Professor
About Stephanie Wohlgemuth
My scientific interests center on metabolic and cellular responses to stress such as aging, disease, and environmental conditions, with particular focus on mitochondrial biology in humans and animal model organisms. I utilize specialized instrumentation such as the Seahorse Flux Analyzer and the Oroboros Oxygraph to assess mitochondrial function. My research expertise spans from whole animal experiments to subcellular organelle isolation and functional assessment, in organisms from marine invertebrates and terrestrial nematods, rodents, and large farm animals, to humans. In our Metabolism Core, I am providing my expertise and various services to the wider UF campus to explore mitochondrial biology. My teaching experience includes undergraduate courses in biology and physiology as well as general laboratory skills, and graduate courses in muscle physiology, mitochondrial biology, and aging biology. I have worked in leadership positions in physiology laboratories for over 15 years, and have supervised, mentored, and trained 50 undergraduate and graduate students, as well as technicians and postdoctoral scientists.
