Research Profile
My research program largely focuses on the concept of human variation. My primary interest is in understanding not only how but why we vary as a species to better appreciate the variation among human populations. I approach questions regarding human variation by using CT scans, 3D cranial modeling, and 3D geometric morphometrics to analyze the structural and environmental (e.g., high-altitude hypoxia, temperature, humidity) relationships affecting the upper respiratory system. I am additionally interested in the forensic and clinical applications of these patterns of variation. My additional research aim is making anatomy more applicable to the clinical setting our students will encounter in their future careers and to ensure we (as anatomy instructors) are utilizing evidence-based practices in our education. I am particularly interested in the utilization of 3D printing materials to enhance anatomical and ultrasound education in the anatomy labs.
